How to Integrate MailChimp With WordPress Website
Keeping the customers updated with latest bargains and offers is the best way of engaging the customers. The best way of letting the customers know is to have an email list that receive regular emails from the business.
Email is considered a rather personal mode of communication. It also allows the recipient to see the messages at their ease. This is an essential requirement for making an informed decision. Given this, email has a high rate of conversion and lead generation.
What is MailChimp?
MailChimp is an email management system which is used over 12 million people around the globe to connect with their customers. The best part is that MailChimp is totally free for users with minimum 12,000 emails per month and 2000 subscribers.
Using MailChimp with WordPress
Setup MailChimp Account
You can easily integrate MailChimp with WordPress. This ease of integration means is one of the most popular feature of MailChimp.
After registration, you will gain access to the Dashboard.
Now you need to create the mailing list. Click on the List button to get started.
While creating the list, you will be asked for information such as email list name and your email address. Creating the list is a simple process and is usually over in a matter of minutes. Click on Save after filling the form. The list is now ready to use.
Now you can connect this list to a WordPress site.
Add Email Signup Form to WordPress
It is easy to connect the MailChimp list to the WordPress website.
MailChimp has built-in signup forms that could be easily embedded into a web page. Go to your Lists page and click on the down arrow next to your email list. Here you can see several options, one of which would be Signup forms. Select this option.
On the next page, you have to select the type of form you want to display. The two options are General forms and Embedded forms. I will choose Embedded forms for the demonstration. Click the Select button next to it.
The Settings page loads up where you fill in the information that you wish to display in the form, adjust the width and other options. The options are easy to understand. Once you are done, copy the embed code from the box.
For the last step, you need to go to the WordPress Dashboard>Appearance > Widgets. Add a simple Text widget to sidebar and paste the embed code of the form in the widget.
The MailChimp email subscription is now ready for use.
The form is fully functional but not very eye-catching. This usually results in visitors ignoring the form altogether. For a fancy form design, you could use several plugins.
Plugins for MailChimp Integration
Here are two of the best MailChimp WordPress integration plugins.
This is probably the best MailChimp WordPress plugin. It has more than 600,000 active installations. The plugin is often used to display subscribe options at almost all areas of the website including sidebars, contact forms, comments and footer widget.
MailChimp for WordPress is easy to use and the menu fully integrates into the WordPress Dashboard. The strength of the plugin lies in its streamlined integration with Contact Form 7, WooCommerce, Ninja Forms, BuddyPress and default WordPress comments and registration forms.
There are several form display options with the Subscription template in the Sidebars being a popular choice.
One of my favorite features of MailChimp is that it can show Subscribe me to the newsletter in the comments section. This feature could boost your subscribers and turn them into customers.
Customization of the subscription box is a matter of using your preferred values or leaving the default option unchanged.
You can choose where to show subscription box by simply checking the checkbox in the settings page of MailChimp for WordPress.
Plugins > Add New > Search MailChimp for WordPress
Simply click the Install Now button and then activate the plugin.
Once the plugin successfully installed and activated, you can find it in the left sidebar as shown below:
To connect the MailChimp with your website, click on Get Your API key here. This button will take you to the MailChimp dashboard.
Click the Create a Key button.
Copy the API key and paste it in the MailChimp plugin.
This is another great plugin for connecting your MailChimp account with WordPress. The two accounts sync using an API Key. You could then use your preferred mail list. Next, select merge fields that you want to use and add this widget to your sidebar.
This plugin is regularly updated and has more than 100,000 active installations.
Here is how you can use this plugin for setting up a subscription form:
After installation and activation, you input the API key from your MailChimp account.
The Your Lists option is perhaps the most important option for setting up the form.
You could either leave the default values unchanged or use your own for the subscription form.
This was a brief overview of how you can use MailChimp with your WordPress websites. The use of plugins greatly simplify the process and management of the subscriber list. If you have a query or wish to add to the discussion, please leave a comment.
